Bad Dürkheim [baht DUHRK-hime]

An important German wine center as well as a spa town. The name bad translates to “bath” or “spa” and usually indicates an area with mineral springs. Bad Dürkheim is located west of the city of Mannheim in the Pfalz region. The vineyards around Bad Dürkheim, which is also famous for its annual Sausage Fair, are known for producing excellent Riesling wines. There are three grosslagen—Feuerberg, Hochmess, and Schenken-böhl. The Einzellage Spielberg is one of the best sites.
