Bonarda [baw-NAHRR-dah]
1. The shortened name given to Bonarda Piemontese, a red-wine grape grown in Italy’s Piedmont region. Though once widely planted in Piedmont, this grape fell out of favor over the years. Only recently has it been making a slight comeback. Bonarda Piemontese wines are generally light, fruity, and immediately drinkable. This variety is also known as Bonarda di Chieri and Bonarda di Gattinara. 2. A synonym for a grape variety officially known as Croatina.
