Erbach [EHR-bahkh]
Located in Germany’s Rheingau region, this town is known for its esteemed wines, particularly those from Marcobrunn, a celebrated Einzellage. Marcobrunn is actually located only partly in the village of Hattenheim, but in 1971 a dispute was settled to the effect that all wines produced in the area are attached to the village of Erbach, and therefore labeled “Erbacher Marcobrunn.” Wines from the Marcobrunn site are generally full-bodied (see body) and long-lived. Erbach has also made its mark with wines from other sites including Hohnenrain, Honigberg, Michelmark, Rheinhell, Schlossberg, Siegelsberg, and Steinmorgen.
