Margaux AC [mahr-GOH]

appellation considered one of the best areas within the Médoc district of France’s Bordeaux region. It not only encompasses vineyards around the village of Margaux but also includes those of the villages of Arsac, Cantenac, Issan, Labarde, and Soussans. The Margaux AC has twenty-one cru classé châteaux, more than any of the other Médoc commune appellations. Heading the list is the premier cru château Margaux, followed by other top châteaux including d’Issan, Malescot-St.-Exupéry, Palmer, and Rausan-Segla. The wines from the Margaux AC can be very perfumy and exhibit a wonderful silkiness (see silky) and elegance. They’re made from Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot.
