Minervois AC [mee-nehr-VWAH]
appellation that produces some of the best red wines in France’s languedoc-roussilon region. It’s located north of Corbières, inland from the Mediterranean coast. The vineyards begin around the village of Minerve on a high plateau and run south and west down to the river Aude. Minervois wines, which are generally good and fairly full-bodied (see body), are made from Carignan, Cinsaut, Grenache, and, in an effort to improve quality, increasingly from Mourvèdre and Syrah. Most of the production comes from area cooperatives, which generally produce agreeable wines.
