Moscadello di Montalcino DOC [moss-kah-DELL-oh dee mawn-tahl-TCHEE-noh]

DOC zone that is in the southern portion of Italy’s Tuscany region and is exactly the same zone as that for the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. Moscadello di Montalcino DOC produces a sweet white wine, made mainly from Moscato Bianco (Muscat), which can be still or frizzante. There’s also a liquoroso, which is a fortified version. There was a similiar wine made in the Middle Ages, but the grape used is thought to have been the Moscadelletto, a Muscat mutant not quite the same as today’s variety.
