Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi DOC [vehr-DEEK-kyoh day kahs-TEHL-lee dee YEH-zee]
Area that encompasses the hilly sites west of the town of Jesi in Italy’s Marches region. This is the best known of the docs making wine from the Verdicchio grape. The wines, which can also contain up to 15 percent Malvasia and Trebbiano grapes, are generally crisp and dry, with a light but elegant aroma and flavor. The classico zone covers all but a small section of the regular DOC area. spumante versions are made as well, some using the méthode champenoise.
