spicy

An umbrella term for the lively, fragrant aroma and flavor of some wines. This word may cover any of many spices including allspice, cinnamon, cloves, mace, nutmeg, and pepper. A spicy characteristic is usually related to the grape (Gewürztraminer is known for its spiciness) but can also come from the wine’s contact with new oak barrels.
