toasty
The appealing smell of bread when darkly toasted, which is particularly desirable in some chardonnays and sparkling wines. Stronger toasty flavors, found in some red wines, reflect spicy, roasted coffee flavors and aromas. This characteristic is the result of the wine being stored in toasted barrels (see toast).
