Not your average
I will never cease to be amazed at the talent of winemaking that I see coming from really boutique wineries. This Zin while rich and characteristic, was not overpowering in it's fruit. Somewhere beneath the black berries and licorice there was a smokiness that gave this New World wine a bit of an Old World style. It was graceful and the mouthfeel was more delicate that some Zins. Fantastic wine which will only get better!
Bored-no?
This classic bordeaux styled blend is a fantastic wine for any-time. Black cherries, and black licorice duke it out in style, wafting up from the glass with a hint of eucalyptus as well. On the palate are dark fruits with a touch of cinnamon bark, and and almost vegetal finish. This would be great for drinking alone or pairing with a hearty pasta sauce!
And the Winner is!
In a recent blind tasting of Syrah, this was my number one. (I changed my mind on a couple of the placements, but this stayed number one the whole time!) It starts out with blueberries exploding in the glass followed by a hint of sandalwood and that characteristic black pepper. It was rounder and more plush on the palate than most of the others, and the flavor profile followed through with tart cranberries & blueberries letting the pepper take over the mid palate, and following with an almost creamy finish. YUM And at this price, you can afford more than one!
