The term ‘Claret’ was adopted by the English Wine shippers in the 18th century and applied to all Bordeaux red wines. At clos Pegase our claret borrows from this Bordelaise tradition: we have created our wine as a ‘field blend’ representing the harvest tons from each vintage of the clos Pegase estate vineyards. As such, this wine is from the four classic red Bordeaux varieties from our Estate. Bottling was after 15 months aging in 33% new french oak barrels: adding structure and support through barrel aging, while preserving the vibrant fruit tones. In keeping with its background, the wine plays on balance and elegance. The 2005 claret offers pure black and red currant fruit, tobacco leaf, and blackberry jam fruit tones leading to a medium weight, dense, vibrant and supple palate. The wine will continue to develop and gain complexity for the next five years.
