Bouche de Beurre Chardonnay, Estate Vineyard
Bouchaine Vineyards
Winemaker's Notes
Bouche de Beurre refers to the rich, buttery taste of this limited release Chardonnay. Bouchaine’s winemaker, Michael Richmond, has made Chardonnay in Napa Valley and Carneros for almost 30 years and has always been intrigued by the versatility of Chardonnay. He feels that it lends itself to being styled or seasoned more than any other varietal, but that the underlying quality of the vineyard source and the characteristics of the grapes are vital attributes that determine the resulting wine. This wine provides a fascinating contrast to our other Chardonnay bottlings. It shows a creamy smooth texture, balanced acidity, and hints of tropical and buttery flavors. Contrary to established notions of butter-and-cream Chardonnays being heavy and overwhelming, our Bouche de Beurre balances elegance and opulence. Available only through AmericanWinery.com or via the winery.
Fermentation Notes
This wine was aged in 100% new oak and completed 100% malolactic fermentation, adding softness and creaminess. As Winemaker Richmond explains, "I feel that Chardonnay from Carneros receives the oak more gracefully versus fruit from warmer climates, and that's why this wine, even with the 100% new oak treatment, is is exceptionally well integrated between texture and flavor."
